VESSEL OPERATIONS

Last Update:  07/23/2005

MISSIONS

Despite the focus on military operations in the design of this Vor'Cha variant, there are still a variety of missions that the Vor'Cha-DaH'HoS can be utilized in performing.  They include:

Exploration.  This vessel can be directed into unknown areas for duties in mapping and preliminary planetary study operations.  Threat assessments can be conducted on any civilizations found in advance of contact/conquest missions.  Scientific vessels can then be deployed at a later time after initial threat assessments have been made and risk to a lesser-armed science vessel determined.

Research.  While the scientific capabilities of this vessel are limited compared to other Vor'Cha-class cruisers, some research operations in areas considered hostile may be performed aboard the vessel with some assurance of survival.  The removable science lab modules do provide for some flexibility in the scientific capabilities of this vessel.  In the development of weapon systems, provisions have been made for dedicated system monitoring equipment installation.

Diplomacy.  A surprising aspect to many, the Vor'Cha-DaH'HoS is equipped to host foreign delegations for meetings, receptions and other activities by Klingon Diplomatic Corps personnel aboard the vessel.  The vessel itself has proved to be effective at displaying military resolve while acting as a forum for diplomacy at the same time.

Military Operations.  This vessel is capable of performing a myriad of military operations.  They generally are of one of two classifications:

Independent Operations.  The various offensive and defensive systems installed in this vessel make it able to operate on its own without support for long periods of time. It also carries a respectable Marine complement able to conduct a number of operations of offensive and defensive descriptions.

Task Force Operations.  It can act as the flagship for groups of vessels conducting military operations.  The communication system is designed to handle the large amounts of communications involved with commanding staff bodies.  Holodeck facilities can be configured as command and control centers for fleet commanders.

Rescue Operations.  The varied weapon systems of this vessel give the ship a great chance of being able to conduct rescue operations in hostile environments by use of transporter and/or auxiliary vessels with a measure of protection from hostile forces.

PROTOCOLS & STANDING ORDERS
Captain's Order 101:  All personnel are duty-bound to prevent capture or control of this vessel or data from known or unknown parties at all costs.

Captain's Order 102:  All crew members shall maintain the physical security of this vessel and/or its contained data at all times, and shall not take or fail to take actions which jeopardize said security of same.

OPERATING MODES

There are a number of operating modes for ghop qeylIs.  They include:

Alert Status Three (Patrol Mode)

This is the standard operating condition for ghop qeylIs.

Diagnostic routines are run on all primary and combat systems at the start of each shift.

Warp and impulse propulsion systems kept at standby status if not already active or undergoing maintenance/repairs.

All ship weapons are inactive.

Navigational shields are operating at power levels consistent with ship velocity.

Deflector shields are inactive.

One cloaking device available for activation; phasing device is inactive.

One standard shuttle, two fighters and two assault shuttles are maintained at 5-minute alert status.

Standard security patrol and monitoring protocols are in effect.

Alert Status Two (Yellow Alert)

This is the next level of operating condition when a combat or other emergency condition arises but is not imminent.  Command-chain personnel are authorized to initiate Yellow Alert.  The ship's computers can also activate Yellow Alert if a major system problem is detected or an unknown or hostile spacecraft is detected on sensors.  All actions taken in this condition are subject to modification based on the needs of the specific situation.

Diagnostic routines automatically activated on primary and combat systems every 20 minutes.

Warp drive made operational (if not already) and maintained at three-quarter power unless specified otherwise.

Impulse engines brought to full power capacity.

Phasers/disruptors prepared for activation.

Photon/quantum torpedoes prepared for loading (loaded if ordered).

Plasma torpedo magnetic field matrix generators activated (if ordered).

Two cloaking devices available for activation; phasing device on standby.

Targeting sensors brought to standby status.

Two standard shuttles, six fighters and five assault shuttles (if needed) are maintained at 5-minute alert status.

B'rel scouts maintained at 10-minute alert status.

Roving patrols are increased; security around priority areas increased; security records location of all personnel and notifies patrols of any abnormalities or people in unauthorized locations.

Corridor phaser arrays set to light stun (if ordered).

Marine forces are alerted and report to their duty stations as dictated by the specific situation.  Weapons appropriate to the current situation are issued.

Bridge station-trained personnel report to Auxiliary Bridge.  Personnel are also sent to Engineering and Weapon Control Bridge in case the Main Bridge is incapacitated.

Alert Status One (Red Alert/Battlestations)

This status is invoked when combat is expected or imminent or some crisis has occurred.  It is also called when Marine forces are to be landed.  Personnel of all shifts report to duty stations for immediate service or to remain on standby.  Command-chain personnel are authorized to initiate Red Alert/Battlestations.  The ship's computers can also activate Red Alert if a major system problem is detected or an unknown or hostile spacecraft is detected on sensors.  All actions taken in this condition are subject to modification based on the needs of the specific situation.

Diagnostic routines performed every five minutes; problems or significant changes in status are reported to the Bridge immediately.

Warp drive made operational (if not already) and maintained at three-quarter power unless specified otherwise.

Impulse engines brought to full operating capacity; all auxiliary generators are activated; all emergency generators on standby.

All cloaking devices available for activation; phasing device on standby.

Deflector shields activated.

Phaser/disruptor weapons armed.  Phaser cannon plasma conduit containment fields activated.

Photon/quantum torpedo tubes loaded.

Targeting sensors activated (locked if ordered).

Plasma torpedo magnetic field matrix generators activated (if ordered); plasma energy routed into projector conduits (if ordered).

Four standard shuttles, all fighters and assault vehicles (if needed) are maintained at 1-minute alert status.

B'rel Scouts maintained at 3-minute alert status.

Roving patrols are increased and supplemented with Marine forces (if available); standing security around priority areas increased; security records location of all personnel and notifies patrols of any abnormalities or people in unauthorized locations.

Corridor phaser arrays set to heavy stun (if warranted).

Marine forces are alerted and report to their duty stations as dictated by the specific situation.  Weapons appropriate to the current situation are issued.  The Marine Force Leader will issue orders to prepare troops in storage for thawing if and as needed.  Marine equipment is moved to staging areas for deployment (if needed).  "Death Team" personnel prepared for enemy bridge/operations area insertion (if needed).

Bridge station-trained personnel report to Auxiliary Bridge.  Personnel are also sent to Engineering and Weapon Control Bridge in case the Main Bridge is incapacitated or separates from the main hull.

Damage Control bulkheads and containment fields activated.

Environmental systems brought to full operational condition.  Unoccupied areas are sealed off and life support functions discontinued.

Sickbay/First Aid stations fully manned; triage areas manned; orderlies deployed throughout the vessel with stretchers and extra medical supplies.

Docked Mode

This condition is initiated when docked at a fully-equipped Starfortress or other facility.  Power is normally supplied by the Starfortress, though ship's power is kept on standby in case of problems or an emergency departure is required.  When docked at lesser-equipped facilities, the vessel is maintained in a condition closer to Patrol Mode as dictated by the facility capabilities.  All actions taken in this condition are subject to modification based on the needs of the specific situation.

Power, HRF, ISF, gravity and environmental systems are normally powered from Starfortress umbilical connections.  At least one walkway connection is maintained at all times.

All primary power systems are powered down.  At least two auxiliary generators are kept on standby at all times.

All navigational and tactical deflectors are shutdown.

If the station docking facilities are not sufficient to keep the vessel in place, tractor beam emitters on the vessel will be used to help maintain position.

Separated Flight Mode
This condition represents any occasion where either the Bridge Module or the Forward Weapon Module has been separated from the rest of the vessel.  Modules will be separated in either non-hostile situations (such as for testing or maintenance operations) or in a crisis (initiating either Alert Status Two/One protocols).  Non-hostile separations can be ordered by a senior-level command-chain officer.  Separations in hostile situations can only be ordered by the Commanding Officer after alternate bridge stations report they are ready for activation.  All actions taken in this condition are subject to modification based on the needs of the specific situation.

Diagnostics run on all primary and tactical systems.

Warp drive made operational (if not already) and maintained at three-quarter power unless specified otherwise.

Impulse engines brought to full operating capacity; all auxiliary generators are activated; all emergency generators on standby.

All module HRF/ISF generators brought to full operational condition.

All module life support systems brought to full operational condition.

Hanger Deck and Scout Bays brought to Yellow Alert.

Silent Running/Stealth Mode

This condition is intended to minimize the ability of others to detect the vessel.  Vigilance must be maintained because a ship in this state is vulnerable to attack from hostile forces.  All actions taken in this condition are subject to modification based on the needs of the specific situation.

Warp drive is brought down to minimal power level for current velocity.  If at sublight speeds, warp drive is kept at "idle" condition.  If at warp, fractional warp factor velocities are avoided.

Impulse engines are brought down to minimal power level for current velocity and power generation requirements.  Auxiliary generators kept on standby (activated only if necessary).

Hourly power generation/consumption reports provided by each department to Bridge and Engineering.

Navigational deflectors brought down to minimum power levels for ship's velocity.

External communication system transmitters deactivated.

Active sensors powered down.

Weapon systems powered down unless needed (energy weapons brought up to as high a power level as possible without risking detection through cloaking field and torpedo tubes loaded if ordered).

Cloaking devices activated if available; phasing device on standby for activation.

Transporter use suspended unless overridden by Commanding Officer (MTT units utilized for egress if possible).

Holodeck operations suspended.

Replicator operations suspended if necessary.  If able to continue operating, food units will provide combat rations due to their simplicity of replication.

Auxiliary spacecraft propulsion/weapon systems powered down unless ordered by Commanding Officer or Executive Officer.

Reduced Power Mode
This condition is invoked when power supplies must be conserved and consumption reduced from Patrol Mode (such as after having sustained heavy damage or low fuel conditions.)  Many of the Silent Running protocols are repeated in this state.

External communication system transmitters deactivated unless needed.

Active sensors powered down unless needed.

Weapon systems powered down unless needed.

Cloaking devices deactivated and phasing device shut down unless overridden by Commanding Officer.

Transporter use suspended unless overridden by Commanding Officer (MTT units utilized for egress if possible).

Holodeck operations suspended.

Replicator operations suspended if necessary.  If able to continue operating, food units will provide combat rations due to their simplicity of replication.

Auxiliary spacecraft power systems routed into Vor'Cha power distribution system if needed.
